Gifts For Quilters

Hi Everyone!

The International Quilt Festival and Market was fun and exhausting! I have many new items arriving soon and by next week Friday, I should have all items posted. Many items are in Notions. Chech out the new CD's and Fabric by Ricky Tim. I found some beautiful applique patterns, and again I will be posting more items, so check back often.

A word about the CD's. Ricky and his alter ego, Caveman Tex, take you on a quilting journey back in time where rulers, templates and quarter inch seams are still in the future. You will learn how to cut and sew gentle, undulating curves (without pinning), by making a small tulip-like wall quilt called Chantelle. Quilters are then encouraged to use the “Caveman” technique to create their own improvisational quilts. In addition to the instructional chapters, a gallery of Ricky’s “Caveman” style quilts demonstrates the variety of ways in which this free-style technique can be utilized. This whimsical, step-by-step presentation lays aside traditional techniques and explores a new alternative quilting method. The video includes animation and original music composed and performed by Ricky. The DVD offers bonus features such as a Chapter Menu for quick navigation and a Music Menu which plays music selections only. Great effort was made during production to show intricate sewing details from Ricky’s point of view. The camera is placed in such a way that the viewer actually sees what Ricky sees, without having to view techniques and demonstrations upside down. Close-up shots enable quilters to explicitly see the minutest details.

Fabric Studio-Create and Print fabric at home using your own computer

The software comes with image libraries that have examples in both black and white and in color. These images are classified by pattern types and designs. The images in most of the libraries are designed to allow you to seamlessly fill a standard 8.5 by 11 inch sheet of paper using the auto-fill feature. Once you create your fabric pattern, you are given the option to modify your design even more.
With the Quick Start Wizard you can choose from a variety of images, or you can import your own images into the program. Once you have modified your image, the Floating Pattern Box gives you various ways to format your layout. The software also comes with a set of Templates which can be used to create and design fabrics for the more advanced user. This program is user friendly and designed to be used by both novice and advanced computer users. There is something for everyone who wishes to express their artistic creativity with simple straight-forward steps.

Sew a Hanging Sleeve After the Quilt is Bound .

Cut or piece together fabric to make a strip 9" tall and the same width as the quilt.

Fold under short edges 1/4", wrong sides together. Fold under again. Press. Sew a straight or zigzag seam to hem the folds. Now fold the strip lengthwise, wrong sides together, aligning its raw edges. Sew together with a 1/2" seam allowance. Press the seam allowance open. Place the open seam against the quilt's back. Center and pin the top edge of the tube to the back of the quilt, about 1/2" below the binding. Use a whipstitch to sew the top edge of the tube to the quilt backing. Stitch into the batting occasionally to help strengthen the seam. Smooth the sleeve downward along the quilt back, then make a 1/2" fold along its length to create a pleat. Leaving the pleat intact, pin the sleeve bottom to the quilt. Whipstitch the lower edge of the sleeve to the quilt. Remove pins. The sleeve will pooch out a bit to allow space for a hanging rod. Whipstitch the back sides of the sleeve to the quilt. Leave the front sides unsewn to allow for rod insertion. ( Article-Courtesy of quilting.about.com)
